FrontierVille Shedding Monthly Users As Top Facebook Games Grow

[Every other week, we examine the most popular Facebook games (according to monthly active users), looking at the top titles and developers on the social network to see who's attracting or losing players.]

After losing users for a brief period, Facebook's most popular games are growing their monthly audiences again, with the exception of a few Zynga titles like recent hit FrontierVille.

Zynga's pioneering sim, which quickly became one of the biggest games on Facebook after launching last June, had the second largest audience for some time but recently dropped to #3 after losing 3.3 million users in the past two weeks, now down to a total of 31.3 million total players (though its gaining daily active users).

FarmVille, the most popular app on Facebook, remains at the top spot with 62.1 million total users after gaining around 113,766 users. Texas HoldEm Poker took the #2 ranking from FrontierVille as it picked up 908,728 new card players and bolstered its 35.5 million total.

Cafe World hopped up a spot to #4 with its 1.2 million new patrons and 21.9 million total, followed by Mafia Wars with 1.1 million less mobsters and now a 21.3 million total, and Treasure Isle with 86,124 additional players and a 15.6 million total.

PetVille was #7 just two weeks ago, but it's fallen to #10 since after dropping some 1 million monthly users -- it now has 12.6 million total players. Casual gaming portal MindJolt Games, the first non-Zynga title on the list, stole PetVille's placing and has 318,215 more users for a total of 13.9 million.

Electronic Arts/Playfish's Pet Society lost 272,066 players but still jumped up a spot to #8 with 13.1 million total monthly users, and CrowdStar's Happy Aquarium broke into the top ten at #9 after picking up 1.5 million gamers for a 12.7 million total.
