ESPNU College Town, Millionaire City Lead Fastest-Growing Facebook Games

Every other week, Worlds in Motion examines the fastest growing Facebook games (according to monthly active users), looking at which titles and developers are having the most success attracting new players on the social network.

Disney and Playdom's ESPNU College Town, in which players build a virtual university and manage its sports teams, is currently Facebook's fastest-growing game after gaining more than 1.1 million monthly active users in the past week. Launched late last month, the sim now has 2.9 million players.

RockYou's Birthday Cards -- a gifting app that hardly qualifies as a game but is listed as one anyway -- is #2 on the list followed by Digital Chocolate's Millionaire City. The city-building title gained almost 800,000 monthly users in the last week and has a total audience of 11.1 million players.

Zynga's fantasy strategy title Warstorm is ranked #3, picking up 776,982 gamers for a total of 2 million. After that, we have Funzio's Crime City (+675,365 users, 1.3 million total), InstantAction's Instant Jam (+646,373 users, 689,892 total), and Mytopia's Bingo Island 2 (+470,703 users, 1.1 million total).

It Girl, the recently launched competitive RPG from CrowdStar that's enjoying an ARPU four times higher than the studio's previous titles, is at #8 with 388,226 players joining in just the past week. The game's total monthly audience is currently around 4.6 million.

Cie Games' Car Town made it to #9 after driving 378,462 new players to its 5.9 million total, and Zynga's Mafia Wars took #10 as it absorbed 338,008 virtual mobsters into its gang of 22.1 million monthly active users.
