CyberSports Secures $6.8 Million For Football Superstars

CyberSports announced its raising of 4.3 million, or $6.8 million, which it will put toward its goal of "becoming the premier publisher of free-to-play online multiplayer sports games."

The publisher is best known for publishing Football Superstars, a client-based 3D soccer game allowing players to not only join in matches against others with their custom avatar but also explore a persistent virtual world with their character. The online title features both subscription and free-to-play options.

Formed in 2006 and based in London, CyberSports says it's focused on its goal of "dominating the online sports game market" by developing and publishing virtual sports worlds that appeal to the widest possible global audience. It worked with Monumental Games (MotoGP 09/10) to develop Football Superstars.

The company raised this new funding mostly from existing investors, though it hasn't named those previous backers other than Pamir Gelenbe. CyberSports says it will use this new cash to accelerate Football Superstars' momentum by releasing it in new territories, integrating more brands, and taking advantage of social media/mobile platforms.

"The funds were raised mainly from existing investors and this demonstrates their ongoing confidence in what we?re doing," says CEO Malcolm Clark. "They recognize that we have an original and unique product which is proving to have enormous global appeal."
