CityVille, Zuma Blitz Lead Fastest-Growing Facebook Games

Every other week, Worlds in Motion examines the fastest growing Facebook games (according to monthly active users), looking at which titles and developers are having the most success attracting new players on the social network.

There was no contest for the top spot this week as Zynga's CityVille picked up a massive 24.9 million monthly users in the last seven days, bringing its total player count up to 26.6 million since debuting in early December. The developer previously said the city-building simreceived the biggest launch out of all its titles.

CityVille's explosive growth can be attributed to its multiple localizations (Zynga's first international launch, supportingEnglish, German, Italian, Spanish, and French languages), users inviting their friends to play through invites and status updates, and heavy cross-promotion through ads in the company's other popular games.

The second fastest-growing title is also a recent release, PopCap Games' Zuma Blitz. Since its launch two days ago, the puzzler has picked up nearly 1.4 million monthly users. PopCap's only other Facebook release, Bejeweled Blitz, is the tenth most popular game on the social network with 11.8 million players.

At #3, FarmVille, the biggest app on Facebook, also enjoyed a good week after welcoming over a million new users for a total of 55.3 million. After the Zynga farming sim, we have CrowdStar's Mighti Pirates (+559,388 users, 1.8 million total) and Boyaa's Chinese card game ????(???)(+525,325 users, 4.3 million total).

Playdom'sCity of Wonder takes #6 (+465,234 users, 7.7 million total), followed by Digital Chocolate's Island God (+458,727 users, 2.6 million), LOLapps' Ravenwood Fair (+443,316 users, 5.2 million total), Gaia Online'sMonster Gala (+439,720 users, 538,400 total), and Telaxo'sDie Herausforderung der Stadte (+418,099 users, 612,932 total).
